RTO Assam 2023

The state of Assam will have an RTO in operation by 2023. The Motor Vehicles Department, which oversees the implementation of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, is a central entity applicable across the country. The department is led by the Transport Commissioner and is responsible for enforcing the act’s various provisions. About Assam RTO Office

The Transport Department in the Indian state of Assam was initially supervised by the Home Department until the late 1950s. During this time, a police officer with the rank of Inspector General oversaw the department’s affairs. In 1951, a separate department called “Transport Department, Govt. of Assam” was established to meet the changing needs of the state. A government Secretary headed the department at this time, and the position evolved to become occupied by a Commissioner & Secretary and now, a Principal Secretary over the following years. The current head of the Transport Department in Assam is the “Commissioner of Transport,” who reports to the government of Assam.

Previously, the Transport Department of Assam was under the jurisdiction of the Home Department before its name was changed to the “Government of Assam Transport Department” in 1951. The Assam RTO’s main goals are to reinforce traffic regulations, promote road safety practices, reduce air pollution caused by vehicles and provide assistance to accident victims, as well as issuing driver’s licenses and collecting road taxes.

To operate a motor vehicle, a valid driving license issued by the Licencing Authority is required. Driving a car without a proper license is against the law. Additionally, operating a Transport Vehicle is only allowed if the driver’s license specifically entitles them to do so. In Assam, driving licenses are issued by the District Transport Officers of different districts. The application process can be completed online by clicking on the given buttons. After filling out the application, you must print out the form and submit it to the chosen DTO (RTO) office along with the reference number.

To begin driving a motor vehicle, the first step is to obtain a “Learner’s Licence”. To acquire this licence, an application must be made to the licencing authority where the applicant resides or conducts business. This licence is temporary and valid for six months, and is issued for the purpose of learning how to drive. To be eligible for a driving licence in Assam, applicants must meet certain age requirements depending on the type of licence desired. For example, those above 18 years old are eligible for a Lite Motor Vehicle (LMV) Licence, while those above 20 years old can apply for a Transport Vehicle Driving Licence. Additionally, 16-year-olds can apply for a Motorcycle Driving Licence that doesn’t exceed 50 CC. The fees associated with obtaining different types of driving licences include a Rs 200 fee for a Learner’s Licence and Permanent Driving Licence, a Rs 250 fee for driving licence renewal, and a Rs 300 fee for driving licence testing.

Additionally, an applicant can provide an affidavit sworn before an Executive Magistrate, a 1st Class Judicial Magistrate, or a Notary Public to validate their address.

Fancy Number Plate Assam 2023

The State Government of Assam has proposed a new policy to auction VIP and fancy number plates of vehicles in order to generate additional revenue. The policy was announced through a gazette notification on December 29th and a directive has been sent to all the District Transport Officers of the State. It is mandatory for anyone requesting a fancy number plate to participate in the auction. The rules and regulations for the auctioning process will be determined by the Transport Commissioner. In the past, fancy number plates were issued only after payment of Rs 5,000 at the time of vehicle registration, upon approval by the Transport Commissioner.
