No Closing of CSD Canteen – Merger of URCs is a periodic process

The Minister of State for Defence Shri Shripad Naik has replied in Parliament on 4th March 2020 regarding the CSD canteen. The written reply is reproduced and given below for your ready reference.

There are 3809 Unit Run Canteens (URCs) as on date, all over the country, which can also be utilized by Ex-servicemen.

The Government has not given any orders for closure of URCs. However, merger of URCs is a periodic process based on the number of beneficiaries in the area, proximity to other URCs and organisational efficiency.

All efforts are made to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the clientele, including Ex-servicemen.
